Ft. Worth, Colleyville, Grapevine:

The Jury came back with the penalty phase of Damian Merrick around 3:45 PM this afternoon with a recommendation of 15 Years on the sexual assault Rape charge and 7 Years for each drug offense.  The sentences will run concurrently.  Merrick also faces additional charges in Granbury, Hood County.

Immediately after the sentence was pronounced and Merrick was removed, Merrick’s daughter began screaming at the Tarrant County Prosecutor Dawn Ferguson in the Court’s Hall area.

Reports from the Courthouse is that the families of the victims required a police escort to the parking lot to get in their cars because a group who were supporting Merrick had become unruly.

He was immediately escorted from the Ft. Worth Courtroom in handcuffs by Sheriff Deputies to begin his sentence.

Little Ricky in I Love Lucy was NOT Ricky Ricardo but Played by Keith Thibodeaux born in Lafayette, LA Dec. 1950

January 19, 2017, by Nelson Thibodeaux

Keith Thibodeaux was born on December 1, 1950, in Lafayette, Louisiana. (His family would move to Bunkie, La., when Thibodeaux was two years old.) He was the oldest of five children born to Lionel and Mary Ann (Chitty) Thibodeaux. Even though he did not come from a musical family, his earliest memories are of listening to music and keeping time by beating on pots and pans with sticks, knives, and forks. Afterwards, he graduated to banging on metal trash cans in the family’s back yard. By age three, Thibodeaux was playing drums professionally.

According to Keith, he never had a lesson. “My talent for playing the drums was a gift from God. Dad bought me a toy drum one Christmas, and I eventually destroyed it. I wanted a real drum and he bought me a snare drum. Dad continued to buy me one drum after the other.”

Keith began performing at local Lion’s Club meetings and high schools in the area. His uncle made arrangements for the young drummer to make an appearance on the Horace Heidt Traveling Variety Show when it came to Lafayette, La., in 1954 for a talent contest. Keith  won the contest and Heidt hired him as a regular on his show two weeks later. (Heidt’s show aired on television each Saturday night.) Lionel Thibodeaux quit his job at United Gas Company and accompanied his son as they toured the U.S. and Canada.

But it wasn’t until two years later that the father and son would walk into Desilu Studios in California and change television history. That was the day Keith Thibodeaux auditioned for the part of Little Ricky.

The story goes that when Keith walked into the studio in 1956, he was unaware that over two hundred youngsters had already auditioned for the part of Little Ricky, the new TV son of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. After being introduced to Lucille Ball, the redhead asked Lionel Thibodeaux if his son had studied acting. When she was told that he had not, Lucy impatiently asked, “Well, what does he do?”

“He’s a drummer,” the his father replied.

Desi Arnaz walked in at that point and introduced himself. It was then that someone noticed a set of drums on the adjoining set of “The Danny Thomas Show”. Everyone walked over to the drums and an air of excitement came over Lucy and Desi as Keith began to play. Desi walked over and asked if he could play. They alternated back and forth on the drums for a while before Keith heard Lucy exclaim, “This is the kid! This is him! This is Little Ricky!”

Not only did the Keith have the musical talent to portray a bandleader’s son on television; he also resembled his soon-to-be TV dad. Apparently, that was enough for Desi and Lucy, and “the drummer from Bunkie, Louisiana” was signed on as Little Ricky. Desi, however, did not think that most people would be able to pronounce the Cajun name of Thibodeaux , (shoot a lot of people in Colleyville can pronounce it) and suggested that the youngster change his stage name to Richard Keith. Even though it was never listed in the credits, Thibodeaux would use the stage name during his tenure on the show.

Keith became quite close with Lucy and Desi while working on the show. He was a frequent guest at the Arnaz household, and spent a lot of time with the couple’s children, Lucy and Desi Jr.

“We were childhood friends. In fact, I was one of the few trusted people that Lucy allowed to play with their kids. I spent time at their summer home, rode horses at their ranch, and swam at their beach house. I even spent a Christmas with them at Palm Springs one year.”

Keith said, he thinks of Desi Sr. as a very talented man who did not get his due in Hollywood.

Watch the clip to the end to see “Little Ricky.”

“He basically lived in the shadow of Lucy. He really had a lot to do with the formation of the show. He set up the three-camera sitcom arrangement that shows still use today. I felt very secure around him. We really had a rhythmic connection since he played the Congas and I played the drums. We also connected because he had a foreign name and I had a name that they had to change because nobody could pronounce it.”

Keith auditioned for “The Andy Griffith Show” and won the role of Johnny Paul Jason, Opie’s best friend. It wasn’t a big part, but Keith made several appearances on the show over the next four years. As it turned out, he was more comfortable working on a television series that was set in the south.

“I would rather have played a character like Opie than Little Ricky. Little Ricky was the All-American boy in a New York kind of way, but I’m an old southern boy. I liked Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer, and that is the kind of character that I would like to have played. That would have been more in tune with who I really was.”

Keith appeared on a dozen or so episodes of The Andy Griffith Show. One was titled “Andy Discovers America”. In that episode Andy gets in hot water with Opie’s schoolteacher when he criticizes her history curriculum in front of Opie and his pals. Keith appeared as one of the wide-eyed kids who is captivated by Andy’s revised version of Paul Revere’s famous ride. Another episode is titled “Opie and His Merry Men”. Opie and his pals befriend a lazy hobo who tells them that lawmen cannot be trusted. Keith is seen wearing a Robin Hood-type hat, and appears as a member of Opie’s merry men. The hobo claims to have a game leg, but takes off running when Andy offers to get him a job that will accommodate his bad leg.

Keith got along well with all the cast members, but was closest to Ron Howard (Opie).

“We used to go and get hamburgers together in the commissary, or play catch with a baseball when we weren’t shooting. I was four years older than Ron and found out that he looked up to me. I didn’t know it until I did my first episode, but my former teacher, Catherine Barton, was also Ron’s teacher on the set of “The Andy Griffith Show”. She had told Ron some stories about me when she was teaching me on “I Love Lucy”. Ron asked them to cast me in episodes with him whenever they could.”

Well after the show was completed Keith received his last $8,000 Royalty check in 1971 after he turned 21 and spent it in a couple of weeks.  With his Rock and Roll band David and the Giants where he was introduced to the drug culture and slipped into drugs and excessive alcohol until the group broke up in 1974.

Keith, who still plays the drums, ditched acting and joined his wife Kathy, a professional ballet dancer, as the executive director of Ballet Magnificat! in Jackson, Miss.   On an ABC show  a few  years ago, featuring the cast members still alive, Keith said he seldom watches “I Love Lucy,” but continues to be proud of what it has become.

“It’s held up all these years,” he said. “I just think that to be associated with the show, it’s a good thing. I can say, in a humble way, that I don’t think it’s ever been matched.”

While I have no idea where Keith has since the last I checked I couldn’t reach him in Mississippi,  I did have lunch in Houston with Lionel Thibodeaux about 20 years ago and the topic of conversation went back to the I Love Lucy days with his reminder; “you know Keith was actually Little Ricky on “I Love Lucy.”

As far as a relationship, well I guess most of the Thibodeaux clan pretty much stemmed from a bloodline in Louisana somewhere traced back to the year of 1756 in Pointe Couppe Parish, and New Roads, Louisana, (about 2o miles from Baton Rouge), in my case.  So while visiting with Lionel in Houston way back, we never were sure, but Heck he said, “Keith and you must be at least 3rd or 4th cousins stemming somewhere from back in the Thibodeaux “clan.”

Ft. Worth, Texas  January 26,2017

Tuesday morning (1/24/17), Deputy Carmichael was on foot patrol near the Tarrant County Courthouse, when he noticed a car abruptly stopping and heard screaming from the vehicle. He went to see if the passengers needed assistance when he heard loud screams coming from the car.

He approached to fmd the woman in the backseat actively giving birth! He radioed for an ambulance and then began assisting with the birth of the baby. He delivered a healthy baby boy! EMT services arrived shortly after the birth, and escorted mom and son to John Peter Smith Hospital. Both mom and son are happy and healthy!

The fortuitous opportunity was the result of newly elected Sheriff Bill Waybourn policy of putting patrols on the street in the City of Ft. Worth.  Bill began his career in service when he joined the U.S. Air Force in 1978, serving in both the active duty and reserves. On April 30, 1981, after serving active duty, Bill began working for Dalworthington Gardens Police Department. Bill was promoted to Chief of Police on June 1, 1984 making him the youngest police chief in the state of Texas.  Later, he transitioned the city through combining the police and fire services making him the Chief of Public Safety.
In his 31 years as Chief of Dalworthington Gardens, he has testified on numerous cases as an expert witness, pioneered the Texas model for DWI “No Refusal” program – which is now being used as the model for several surrounding states, and testified before the state legislature on a diverse array of issues relating to the Second Amendment and civilians carrying firearms. He worked with state legislatures on Texas’ original concealed handgun license laws in the 1990s, as well as the most recent open carry law that passed in 2015.

Also, he was extremely honored to help the Chris Kyle Bill become law in Texas – a bill that streamlines the process for military service men and women to become police officers.
He has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, and a master’s degree in conflict resolution. Bill is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, the Texas A&M Police Academy, and is a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He currently teaches college and police instructor classes ranging from criminal justice and criminal procedure to firearms safety and self-defense.
Bill is the current President of Peace Officer’s Angels Foundation, and feels strongly about protecting the fatherless. He is married to Laura and they have nine children, seven of which have been

New Neighborhood is first Development in US Built Around a Community Makerspace

Fort Worth, Texas  January 27, 2017

Walsh, a new 7,200-acre neighborhood under development 12 minutes west of downtown Fort Worth, Texas, will be the first community in the United States to be built from the ground up around a dedicated Makerspace, developers and leaders of the national Makers movement announced today. A Makerspace is a collaborative workspace open to adults and children that provides public access to tools and training in manufacturing, as well as 21st century technology, in an environment designed to foster learning, entrepreneurship and business incubation.

The Makerspace at Walsh will debut with a woodshop, computer design software and 3D printers, laser cutters, robotics and an electronics lab. Mark Hatch, author of the best-selling book The Maker Movement Manifesto and co-founder of TechShop, joined developers from Republic Property Group for the announcement of The Makerspace at Walsh, which included hands-on construction of the first of many community buildings planned for the new Fort Worth neighborhood.

“The team at Walsh has truly embraced the spirit of the Makers Movement: giving people the tools and teaching them to build with their own hands,” said Hatch. “The Makerspace at Walsh will serve as a gathering place for adults to hone crafts or hobbies into skills and second careers, and a source of inspiration for children as they learn to design, create and make the next generation of big ideas.”

Walsh is the latest development from RPG, which counts two of the top 25 best-selling master planned communities in the nation among its current projects. The much-anticipated Fort Worth neighborhood will have a grand opening this spring, with presales for the initial 580 homesites beginning in the coming weeks.

“Walsh will be a place that provides a thoughtful balance of modern technology, functional amenities and nature,” said Tony Ruggeri, co-CEO of Republic Property Group. “Mark Hatch’s advocacy for disruptive technologies and entrepreneurship, and everything the Maker Movement stands for are the perfect embodiment of our hybrid community philosophy. We want students, hobbyists, tinkerers and entrepreneurs to visit The Makerspace at Walsh, use our creation space, learn from one another, leverage tools and technologies – the old and the new – and make things with their hands.”

Ten gigabit internet – the fastest internet speeds in the country – from provider Frog will make 3D modeling and 3D printing readily accessible at The Makerspace at Walsh. Children can experiment with age-appropriate robotics kits, and future Makerspace plans include year-round programming and classes open to Walsh residents, local community groups and businesses.

One of the earliest groups to benefit from The Makerspace at Walsh will be Aledo Independent School District. The district’s award-winning high school, middle school and elementary campuses will expand existing efforts to provide skill development and Makers-focused extracurricular offerings to their students by hosting regular programs at Walsh’s Makerspace. Details on youth summer camps at The Makerspace at Walsh, beginning summer 2017, will be announced soon.

The Makerspace at Walsh is among the village amenities available to Walsh’s initial residents. In future years, the Makerspace and surrounding village will evolve and grow to include additional buildings, specialty workshops, a community garden and more. Makers of all kinds are encouraged to visit walshtx.com and subscribe to the Walsh newsletter to learn more.

Homes in the country’s first neighborhood built around a Makerspace are priced from the upper $200,000s. Each home in the initial development phase is zoned for Aledo ISD and is within a five-minute walk of a community park. A public grand opening will dedicate The Makerspace at Walsh and the new neighborhood this spring.

Home Invasion Robbery Reported in Colleyville

Colleyville, Texas  January 27, 2017

Around Midnight on January 26, 2017, the Colleyville Police Department received a 911 call that there had been a home invasion of 3 to 4 men at 300 Chapelwood Drive.

The homeowner told police that there was a knock at the front door and the individuals announced themselves as US Marshals. The homeowner allowed the men to come in to his home.

According to the homeowner, that is when things apparently went wrong and the men secured the resident with handcuffs.  The homeowner indicated he “thought he may have seen” the words US MARSHAL  on the back of a dark jacket, but that their faces were at least partially covered.  There is no indication the homeowner was able to give a better physical description of the men.

The Police were told that the intruders handcuffed the homeowner and made him lay on the floor.  However, upon leaving the residence left a key for him to unlock the handcuffs.  The Police confirmed there were actually handcuffs found at the scene.

The homeowner also noted that a 2007 Cadillac Escalade, gold in color had also been stolen, as well as cash and jewelry.

As of this afternoon, Colleyville PIO Officer Asst. Chief Hinton told LNO that his department is undertaking an active investigation into the matter.

Guest Column from a Woman who went to “The Women’s March” and “The March for Life”

BY ANTONIA OKAFOR, Guest Column

A week after the Inauguration of Donald Trump, politically active women across America could choose to make themselves heard at two major rallies revolving around women’s issues. They could attend a pro-choice, feminist march known as the Women’s March or they could wait one week and attend the 44th annual pro-life, March for Life.

Some lucky few, such as myself, were able to attend both.

The marches had their similarities. Both marches were held in DC. Both marches were heavily attended by women. And both marches attracted people from all over the country to participate. But each march was not made equal.

Being physically at the marches, it is easy to recognize differences between the two. In fact, some of the differences were downright stunning. Take a look for yourself, perhaps you will agree.

Tarrant County, Feb. 1, 2017

Tarrant County Sheriffs Office has been made aware of a Fraudulent Green Dot Money Pak scam. The purpose of this scam is to defraud the victim(s) into believing they owe money to a law enforcement agency and coax them into purchasing Green Dot Money Cards. The suspect will identify his self as a police officer or law enforcement official. The suspect tells victims they have pending warrants or fines out of Tarrant County or other police agency for Failure to Appear for Jury Duty and Contempt of Court.

The suspect(s) demands the victims to pay the fines and fees associated with the citations so they will not go into warrant status, by purchasing the Green Dot Money Card Paks. In some cases the suspect(s) will become verbally intimidating over the phone and threaten to arrest the victim(s) for non-payment. Those who fall victim to this scam ultimately purchase these Green Dot Money Cards and provide the necessary information to complete the scam. The Tarrant County Sheriffs Office and other Law Enforcement agencies in The State of Texas will not call you and request money from you. Law enforcement agencies will not threaten you with being arrested over outstanding warrants and will not have you purchase any type of cards.

  • If you believe the person is not credible, please ask for identifying information, such as a badge number. Notify the Sheriff’s Office or the local Police Department immediately.
